British Columbia Mandatory Entry Level Training (MELT)
Over the Road Truck Driving School is an ICBC approved MELT Driving School. We have begun teaching the MELT course and the areas of training are listed below.Our MELT course is 140 hours in length.
Our Program Consist of :
- 47 hours Classroom Theory: Overview of the Trucking Industry, Vehicle Components & Systems, Driving TechniquesProfessional Driving Habits, Backing, Coupling, Chainup, Documents, Regulations, Vehicle Inspection, Hours of Service, Cargo Securement, Air Brakes
- 37 hours In-Yard & Off-Road Straight-line Backing, Off-set Backing, Alley-dock backing, Coupling & Uncoupling
- 50 hours On-Road Driving City Driving, Night Driving including a 12 hour Mountain Training Course (2 Hour Classroom + Coquihalla Highway to Kamloops and return
- 6 hours Flexible Time (Flexible Time is used to provide etra training where needed.)

We offer in depth consultation to those considering Truck Driving as a career. The extent and cost of the MELT course needs consideration and exploration of the potential offered by it.
There are many facets of Class 1 Driving that can be discussed to determine what area might be suitable to a new driver. We have associations with various trucking companies seeking drivers.
Our Mandatory Entry Level Training (MELT) Course Policy
It is understood and agreed that the following conditions apply to BC Class 1 Mandatory Entry Level Training Course:
- The course is a minimum 140 hours.
- The course cannot be completed in less than 30 days.
- The course must be completed within 12 months from the date of registration.
- The student must pass 15 assessments.
- 3 of the Assessments (No Demerits allowed) To be passed twice.
- 3 of the Assessments (15 Demerits each allowed) To be passed twice.
- 3 Theory Assessments passed with 80%.
- The student must also pass an ICBC Road Test.
- Because of the complexity of Lesson Appointments, we require 48 hours' notice regarding cancellation of a lesson. A cancellation fee may apply.
- The fee terms are as follows: 50 % fees is required at the time of the registration. Balance of the fees is to be paid during the course. The course fees must be fully paid 1 week before the scheduled road test

- First visit to ICBC:
- ICBC Learner’s License Test Fee: $15
- Second visit to ICBC:
- ICBC Air Brake Knowledge Test: $15
- Road Test Day:
- ICBC Road Test Fee: $60
- ICBC Licensing Fee: $17
- ICBC Medical Form Processing Fee: $28
- At the Doctor’s office:
- Medical examination fee: $80 – $150 (Dr’s pricing)
